We invite you to enjoy your shooting activities in a safe, fun environment. Range rules are intended to provide a safe, friendly, and convenient forum for all to enjoy. Enforcement of these rules is the duty of all members. Additionally, please observe the basic rules of common sense, courtesy and safety. Be a responsible firearms owner, and courteous to your fellow club member.

1. Basic Safety Rules

  • Always assume every gun is loaded until you can see that it is not.
  • Always keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  • Be sure your firearm is mechanically safe to operate.
  • Know how to use your firearm, safely.
  • Use only the correct ammunition for your firearm.
  • Keep your firearm unloaded, with the action open until you are ready to shoot.
  • Always know where your bullet will strike and where it will stop.
  • When firing is in progress, DO NOT move forward of the firing line.
  • DO NOT leave loaded firearms unattended. If it is uncased, the action must be open.
  • DO NOT handle a firearm when people are forward of the firing line.
  • Before moving forward to check your targets, make sure everyone understands the firing line has been cleared.
  • If at any time, you see an unsafe condition, call “cease-fire”. Anyone can and should do this when such a situation arises.

Remember, all members and users are responsible for the safe operation of the range.

2. General Range Rules

  • Guests using the club must be accompanied by a member. Guest must register and pay the $10.00 fee. See rules for exemptions.
  • No person under the age of 18 years of age will be permitted upon any range, unless accompanied by an adult member who will assume responsibility for his conduct and safety.
  • A membership card or day pass must be in your possession at all times on club grounds and will be shown to any director or caretaker upon request.
  • Open and close gates, as appropriate. When you leave the range, close and secure the gate.
  • Under no circumstances will alcohol beverages of any kind be allowed on the premises. No one will enter upon a range if he has consumed alcoholic beverages of any kind on that calendar day.
  • No guns of any type may be taken on or used on the archery ranges.
  • Every rifle will be sighted in at 100 yards prior to being fired at 200 and 300 yards. Hand guns or pistols will first be sighted in at 25 yards on the pistol range.
  • No one will shoot cross line, such as from No.1 bench to any other target.
  • Post your targets on the backer so as not to affect the backer supports. No mid-range targets are allowed.
  • The only “legal” targets are those you attach to the backer or those approved by the board. There will be no indiscriminate shooting of rocks, glass, ceramic, wood and metal. Trees, wildlife, range equipment and structures are also not acceptable targets.
  • Be sure your bullet impacts the dirt backstop. Do not shoot at objects lying on flat ground.
  • Armor piercing, tracer rounds and exploding or fletchette rounds are not allowed. No BMG 50 can be shot at the steel targets.
  • Shot larger than #7.5 is not allowed on shotgun ranges except on the patterning board. Use of personal target throwers is limited to designated areas. See posted signs.
  • Full automatic fire is prohibited.
  • Shooting at aerial targets is prohibited, except for the shotgun range.
  • Pull your targets so the wind does not take them to neighboring property. Do not jeopardize the existence of the range.
  • Eye and ear protection is mandatory during public firing.
  • A range officer has complete authority at all times governing action on any range. Any club member may act as a range officer to call attention to violations and report such acts to the Board to Directors.
  • All shooters will cease fire and lay down all firearms: (a) on command of the range officer, (b) when anyone on the firing line calls “cease fire”, (c) when a vehicle is on the road leading to the range, (d) when anyone is down range checking or changing targets.
  • Do not drive off established roadway and do not drive onto the individual ranges. This includes to the target backers.
  • Vehicles will drive at a safe speed not to exceed 15 mph. No unauthorized vehicles are permitted on the ranges.
  • Unauthorized fires are prohibited. Fire danger signs will be heeded when posted. No fireworks are permitted. No smoking is allowed on club grounds except in enclosed personal vehicles.
  • Range closure signs or markers will be honored when displayed, such as “range closed for maintenance”.
  • Littering on the club grounds is prohibited. Shooters will dispose of used targets, spent hulls and brass when finished shooting, pick up your trash.
  • There will be no unauthorized cutting of trees or shrubs.
  • Any violation of club rules may call for disciplinary action by the Board of Directors and may include: (a) a warning, (b) loss of privilege to use ranges, (c) revocation of membership in the Blue Creek Sport Shooting Complex, (d) if violations warrants, information will be turned over to the county attorney or other authority for prosecution.

As a courtesy to those who come after you, leave the range as good as, or better than you found it. Help keep the facility clean and presentable.

The willful destruction of club property and or the use of obnoxious, threatening or abusive language could result in your removal from the range and possible suspension or termination of your membership.
