March 13th Second Fun Shoot -Our second Fun Shoot of the year at Blue Creek is this Saturday (13th) so mark your calendar and come out if you can. It will be a combination Sporting Clays shoot and a Buddy Shoot at the Trap and Skeet fields. I plan on using the trap machine in full wobble mode. This is a new format I think will be fun! If I can get around with some machines I will change some of the stations so we have something new to shoot at on the Clays course.
Cost will be $35 for 100 birds and includes lunch. I'm sure Jim will have a few prizes for us too! Start time is 10:00 am., so get there a little early to leave some time to sign up! Call 670-1183 with any questions.

April 3rd Registered Sporting Clays Shoot – This will be our first registered Sporting Clays completion of the year and is a cooperative effort between the Billings Rod and Gun Club and Blue Creek Sporting Clays and is the first if its kind in Billings. This is a registered tournament and is sanctioned by the National Sporting Clays Assoc. Results are sent to NSCA at the conclusion of the shoot. Competitors are classed by ability and shooters advance in class by performing well in their existing class. You compete against shooters of your own ability. There will be two separate 100 bird competitions. The first 100 will be shot at the BRGC in the morning. Shooting starts at 10:00 am so show up a little early to sign up. Lunch will be at the BRGC then off to Blue Creek for the second 100 birds. We should be able to start around 1:30 in the afternoon. New shooters can shoot in what we call Hunter Class. This class is scored by what we call Lewis Classing. The whole group is placed in result order, and then natural breaks in the results determine groups in the Hunter Class for prizes. Basically, you can win a prize by being lucky enough to finish at the top of one of these groups. It’s a great way for new shooters to come and enjoy the fun and have a chance to win something and to meet some new shooting friends. Any shooter new to the game we encourage to grab your gun of whatever type and come enjoy the fun and camaraderie.

April 6th – Beginning of Sporting Clays League

April 7th – Beginning of Skeet League

April 8th – Beginning of Trap League

More information on the leagues coming out in the near future!

April 9-11th or April 30-May 2nd  We will be hosting a three day Level I Instructors Certification course for advanced shooters interested in teaching people how to shoot. Level III Instructor, Rich Moore from Colorado, has been invited to put on the course. Shooters interested in becoming a Level I Instructor should contact Steve Owen at 406-670-1009. There is also a great benefit for new shooters that would like to learn how to shoot with emphasis on Sporting Clays but basics learned are good for all target disciplines. The soon to be Level I Instructors need students to teach, so this is a great way to get some instruction for the beginning shooter. We will need a small group of newer shooters on Saturday and Sunday for these new instructors to practice on. We will be looking for a group of students interested in receiving instruction at a very low cost on the dates of either April 10-11 or May 1-2nd. Please contact Steve Owen if you are interested in being a Level I Instructor or would like to participate in receiving instruction. Great opportunity!! Don’t miss out on this one.

May 9-11th – Nationally recognized course setter Mike McAlpine will be putting on his T.R.A.P.S. (Target Reading and
Presentation Seminar). Mike is well known for his target setting skills and has set targets for National, Zone and State shoots and I know he is scheduled to set targets for the Colorado State Shoot this year. Hopefully we will get some Colorado shooters up to our May 15th shoot this year to sample his targets. This course is limited to 7 shooters and I have one, perhaps two slots still available so get back to me ASAP if you are interested in this seminar. It is designed for shooters interested in how to set a course and how to read and shoot some of those hard to read targets that course setters present. This is a three day seminar, cost will be $595 plus targets. Further information can be found on his website.   http://claytarget.us/instruction.htm

May 15-16th Yellowstone 400 Shoot – Our big shoot of the year! Nationally recognized course setter, Mike McAlpine will be setting targets for our Yellowstone 400 Shoot. The main event is a 200 bird shoot. 100 birds will be shot on both Saturday and Sunday morning. Shooting will start at 10:00 am with lunch following the event. On Saturday afternoon we will have two 50 bird sub-gauge events (20 ga. & 28 ga.) events on a European rotation. We will also have a 50 bird 5-Stand competition that can be shot either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. On Sunday afternoon there will be a 50 bird SXS completion. This should be a great warm up for the Montana State Shoot which will be two weeks later up near Polson at Big Sky Sporting Clays. I am also working on some added money to this shoot, so hopefully we will have some decent payouts to award. We will also be having a separate Hunter Class event on both afternoons. These will be held on the sub-gauge and SXS courses and our goal is to bring in as many new shooters as we can. They will compete with their own group and prizes will be Lewis Classed as described above. This should be great for new shooters to compete at their own level and come see what a more competitive event is all about. Hunter Class shooters don’t miss this one; it should be a great time!
